LAS VEGAS – The local Salvation Army is asking for donations to help re-stock its food pantry shelves.

The warehouse at 1581 N. Main Street in Las Vegas is dreadfully bare and donations are falling short.

“We have been serving about 200 families each day, nearly 1,000 each week for the past few months,” says Bernadette Basilio, Director of Family Services. “This is about a 40 percent increase over previous months. That increase has put an additional burden on us – wanting to serve everyone, but having fewer donations and decreased funds to purchase the necessary commodities.”

The pantry can use all types of non-perishable foods, but high protein items like peanut butter, canned chicken, tuna and other meats are very important.

Additionally pasta, beans, rice, canned vegetables and fruits, breakfast cereal, oatmeal, dry milk, juice, baby food and formula, are all needed at this time.

Donations of non-perishable food or cash donations may be brought to The Salvation Army Family Services on Main Street or to the Administration Office located at 2900 Palomino Lane.

Donations can also be made with a credit card by calling The Salvation Army Southern Nevada, (702) 870-4430.
