LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- If you suffer from chronic lower limb pain, you might qualify for a study of new technology to treat the health condition.

A device that has been approved for use in Europe and Australia is being tested nationwide for five years with the hope of Federal Drug Administration approval.

Patients in Las Vegas are being recruited for the study and will have all their expenses paid.

The device is call the Axium Neurostimulator System. It is a permanent implant that stimulates an area of the spinal cord called the dorsal root ganglia.

As most victims of such pain can acknowledge, lower limb pain is often a life-long situation.

"It is a condition that very rarely goes away on its own. Conservative therapies rarely work for most patients," Nathan Alderson, president and CEO of Hope Research Institute, told News 3. "So this is an exciting study because this type of technology is one of the few technologies that may be available for patients of this nature."
