LAS VEGAS -- Clark County will host a government surplus auction at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at 4320 Stephanie St., off Flamingo Road near Dog Fancier's Park.

The popular auctions feature vehicles, office equipment, lost and found electronics, and other items used or acquired by government agencies, including McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the area cities and state of Nevada. Clark County contracts with TNT Auction to manage the auctions. About 200 vehicles and 400 lots of miscellaneous items are expected to be sold at the May 16 auction.

Catalogs listing vehicles and miscellaneous items being sold are posted on TNT's website at www.tntauction.com.

The catalogs get updated regularly as the date of the sale approaches. Anyone planning to participate in the live, on-site auction to bid on vehicles or miscellaneous items must register in person at the TNT Auction trailer set up on the auction grounds. Preview and pre-registration hours open three days in advance of the sale, Wednesday, May 13, through Friday, May 15, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We encourage anyone who wants to participate in the on-site auction to come down during the preview period to register as a bidder and see many of the items that will be sold," said David Johnson, manager of the County's Automotive Services Division, which oversees the sales. "We'll even let you sit in the vehicles and start them up during the preview period."

To register as bidders, participants need to present a valid ID. There is no cost to register. Upon winning a bid on auction day, payment is expected. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, cashier's checks, credit cards, debit cards, traveler's checks or money orders. Clark County has an instructional video in English and Spanish posted on its website at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov and on YouTube to show prospective participants how the registration, bidding and payment process works.

An exception for on-site registration is if you plan to participate in the online portion of the vehicle auction, which is conducted at the same time as the on-site vehicle auction.

Miscellaneous items are sold on site only during a live, separate auction that is conducted at the same time as the vehicle auction. Anyone who plans to bid for vehicles online must register in advance of the sale online through TNT's website. If you register online for the vehicle auction, you must bid online.

The county's last surplus auction of the year will be held at the Stephanie Street location on Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m. In 2014 the auctions raised $4.3 million for participating governmental entities, including $1.4 million for Clark County. Each auction drew an average of 1,503 registered bidders.
