500 attend downtown march to seek justice for Trayvon Martin

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & -- An estimated 500  Las Vegas residents were among those in 100 cities who participated Saturday in a "Justice for Trayvon" campaign. 

Marchers gathered at the steps of the federal courthouse after walking from the Heart Attack Grill at the Fremont Street Experience.

The National Action Network headed by the Rev. Al Sharpton called on residents in 100 cities to host rallies as part of a push to get federal civil rights charges brought against George Zimmerman. 

Zimmerman, claiming self-defense, was aquitted a week ago today in the February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin at a Sanford, Fla., housing complex.

A handful of local groups, including the Clark County Black Caucus and 88.1 KCEP, were among those who helped organize and promote today's event.
