LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- For the first time Las Vegas is rolling out the red carpet for a major world-wide aviation event. In fact, World Routes has never even held a conference in the United States. This could land more tourism dollars in southern Nevada.

The aviation event will bring in about 3,000 airline industry representatives. It kicks off at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Sunday.

Earlier Friday World Routes teamed up with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and McCarran International Airport.

Together they gave us a glance at what the convention means for southern Nevada.

First more than 1,000 airports, 300 airlines and 70 tourism authorities from around the globe will get to experience Las Vegas first-hand.

LVCVA president Rossi Ralenkotter hopes that opens the doors to more jobs, tourism dollars and new airline routes in and out of McCarran International Airport.

Co-hosted by the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority and McCarran International Airport, World Routes is a significant part of the destination’s strategy to increase air service and attract more visitors.

The conference brings together decision-makers from every major airline around the world to meet with travel destination representatives to discuss new airline routes.

Expanding air service to Las Vegas is critical to filling 150,000 hotel rooms and growing international visitation. Host cities typically experience an increase in air service following World Routes given the ability to showcase the destination to this influential group.

More than 100 airline and airport CEOs and Ministers of Tourism are expected to attend World Routes. The conference takes place Oct. 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center
