LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A local 15-year-old was attacked and beaten during lunch hour at Palo Verde High School in what is being described as a local case of bullying that turned violent and it was caught on video.
News 3's Gerard Ramalho spoke with the victim's mother and uncle and they say she is an a-student who has never had trouble before.
This is why all of this is so puzzling to the family. Apparently, she doesn't even know the girl who attacked her.
The incident happened yesterday at the school and of course, it was recorded on video.
The images are hard to watch as a 15-year-old female student at is atacked in the school cafeteria.
A lunch room monitor jumps in to help but the attacker refuses to let go. The victim screaming as she's punched and her hair pulled.
"I can't imagine what my daughter is feeling inside of her heart, of her mind... like where does she go from here," said Lucia Rojas, the victim's mother.
Rojas is devastated. She says her daughter was physically injured and robbed in the incident but the emotional damage may take the greatest toll.
Because the attack was videotaped by other students, it has since been posted and shared on several social media sites. Her daughter is now also living with the pain of embarrassment.
"And I think that every school should have a zero-tolerance to bullying. You bully, you should not be allowed to return to that school," Rojas said.
News 3 did reach out to the Clark County School District and received a statement that says in part, CCSD quote, has "strict, zero-tolerance rules in place regarding bullying and fighting..."
