LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District will present its budget for the 2013-14 school year to the Clark County Board of School Trustees at today’s special board meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Edward A. Greer Education Center, 2832 E. Flamingo Road.

According to a news release from the School District, the nation’s fifth-largest school district has seen its budget slashed in recent years because of the economic downturn. However with rising class sizes across the valley, the District’s hardest-hit schools are targeted to receive some additional personnel.

The result of an arbitrator's decision to allow the District to put more teachers into the classroom will allow the District to hire more than 1,000 new teachers.

Class size reductions and concentrating resources on programs that affect academic achievement are the District’s top priorities, Interim Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky said Wednesday morning.

“The current budget is a direct reflection of our priorities: Lowering class sizes where possible and targeting resources to the areas with the most need. We have also funded programs that are directed at retaining our most at-risk students.”
