LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Two crossing guards are speaking out today about a horrifying morning they'll never forget.

Metro police say a 26-year-old woman carjacked one of the crossing guards as he was taking care of children.

It's a moment 72-year old Len Cuti will never forget. Wednesday morning at his usual school crossing intersection Cuti found himself fighting for his life.

"I had no idea she was going to do anything like that because she was like an average jogger coming through there," Cuti said.

Cuti is speaking of 26-year-old Veronica Gonzalez who, Metro police say, pushed Cuti over and stole his car.

"I just kind of let go and rolled," Cuti said.

Cuti said he had left the keys in his car to hurry to cross children over to Helen Marie Smith Elementary. Cuti remembers Gonzalez getting in the driver's side and taking off.

"I grabbed the window as instinct and I realized you better let go,” Cuti said. “I just rolled."

Cuti was dragged at least five feet while Gonzalez raced from the school cross walk area.

"She had just crossed three or four kids and usually they come around the corner," Cuti said.

Luckily no children were injured, but Cuti suffered a scraped knee and pulled groin. Cuti's wife of 54 years, Donna, witnessed the incident.

"Horror I mean I started shaking I'm still shaking," Donna Cuti said.

Police say Gonzalez rammed into another car and that's when Good Samaritans nabbed her. The Cuti's then felt a sense of relief.

"It's made me realize how much he means to me after all these years this happen to him," Donna said.

For the past three years this couple has helped children cross this intersection and both plan on continuing what they love to do.
