Jury hears testimony from former nurse as hepatitis trial continues

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A nurse who pleaded guilty on five counts related to the hepatitis c outbreak took the stand today in the ongoing trialof Dr. Depak Desai.

Keith Mathahs told jurors he had been a certified registered nurse anesthetist for more than three decades before going to work at defendant Dipak Desai's clinic.

Mathahs said he had never before re-used syringes to administer propofol and knew there was a risk.

He is one of two former nurses charged along with Desai after patients contracted hepatitis c at two local endoscopy centers.

Mathahs received a plea deal in exchange for his testimony.
