LAKE MEAD, Nev. -- Excitement has been building this month about our valley finally getting a water park after a long dry spell but the biggest natural water park in the state is only a quick ride away and it never closes.

News 3's Jerry Brown found some other attributes today as rangers prepared for the summer season ahead.

To experience the beauty of Lake Mead National Recreation Area you don't have to travel over the rainbow, just down the 95.

National park ranger Prashant Lotwala has served more than nine years at Lake Mead, and has seen visitors come and go but the drought has remained constant.

The upcoming memorial day weekend signals the beginning of crunch time for park service rangers at the lake.

Sadly, the summer influx of visitors will result in needless accidents & fatalities. Alcohol is frequently the culprit but not always.

"The common denominator is the lack of personal floatation devices. People either dont wear them.dont wear them properly and then they go out there and then winds can pick up and they end up in the water," Lotwala said.
