LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 24-year-old man accused of setting fire to an autism sports facility in Las Vegas now faces federal charges.

U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden says Samuel Powers of Las Vegas has been charged with felony counts of arson and possession of unregistered firearms, specifically Molotov cocktails.

Powers was arrested Thursday and pleaded not guilty during his initial appearance Friday before Magistrate Judge Carl Hoffman.

He was ordered detained pending his trial, which is set for July 23 in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.

A federal indictment alleges Powers on April 15 damaged and tried to destroy by fire and explosive materials Sport-Social and that he possessed unregistered Molotov cocktails.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage to Sport-Social, which teaches social skills to children with autism through sports and art.
