Many unemployed continue to have problems filing claims

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The state's new unemployment system is up and running and 90,000 claims have been filed successfully since last week.

However, many people are still having trouble filing claims.

Thousands of calls are still flooding in to the state’s employment office and many people are still having trouble logging in

The state’s unemployment office has received more than 400,000 phone calls during the past two weeks. Many of those people trying to log into this system and while some were successful—others are not so lucky."

“I just can’t get online, you go to log in and it just gives you errors and you just can’t get through online,” said Matthew Adamczak who is two weeks behind on filing his unemployment claims

“I’ve been trying to call to file but you can’t get through because of busy signals,” Adamczak said.

He says he’s tried to log in to the new system countless times and even contacted the employment call center for help only to be put on hold for hours and get now where

Thousands of people have been experiencing the same issues since the state overhauled its computer system last month. The new system is supposed to allow quicker and easier access to filing but for some that hasn’t been the case.

“We’ve had 447,000 calls since we went live two weeks ago,” said Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation Director Frank Woodbeck.

As calls continue pouring in, Woodbeck says his office is doing the best it can to help resolve any issues and has made progress.

“It’s a new computer system, some folks are having trouble being able to navigate through the system however, we successfully filed 56,000 claims last week,” Woodbeck said.

Just this past weekend Woodbeck says another 34,000 claims were filed successfully.

"We still have a great number of people who are calling in with the individual problems that they might have or being able to file their claims," Woodbeck said.

Some of the issues he says are technical errors on the part of the person filing the claim.

He says people being shut out of the system due to pin errors should reset their computers and reenter—and those who have already filed successfully need not call the center to verify their claim.

He says those calls coupled with the number of people having other issues is what is causing some back up and long wait times.

"Just be patient and contnue to try to work at getting their claims filed because we have a staff that’s ready to help them," Woodbeck said.
