LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A Metro police officer who worked in vice is now in trouble, accused of soliciting a prostitute.

Because the offense is a misdemeanor, Peter Connell has not been arrested and has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Metro's surveillance of Connell spanned months and included video of him and other men visiting the apartment of a known prostitute.

Court documents say when police pulled over Connell on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute, Connell said he was trying to give a girl a piece of cheesecake.

The 13-year police veteran, who appeared in an episode of “Cops,” faces five charges of soliciting prostitution.

Those charges center around one prostitute. Court documents reveal Connell met her on duty. She spoke with News 3 and asked to hide her face.

“We became very, very good friends. I still consider him a very good friend,” she said. “All I see there is a wonderful man with a real male appetite, a real male nature, and there isn't a guy out there that can't relate,” she said.

Court documents say officer Connell met the prostitute while on duty.

They reveal Connell spent "a high percentage of time conducting prostitution-related investigations.”

Police reportedly conducted surveillance on Connell, following him to this woman's house, where police say he visited at least five times.

While this woman maintains she and Connell mostly talked about God, court documents show she told police she and Connell would have sex.

Connell, who declined to speak with News 3, was reportedly fired from Metro a couple of years ago but was able to get his job back after an arbitration hearing.
