LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – The names of the Nevada Highway Patrol troopers involved in a shooting after a car chase on New Year’s Eve have been released.

Trooper Micah May, who has been with the Department since April 2008, and Sgt. Raymond Pedraza, who has been with Department since June 2001, pulled over David Bird Jr., 33, for a traffic violation near Tropicana and Nellis, but then he took off.

The chase ended on Jones and U.S. 95.

Troopers say they put out several spike strips, but Bird kept driving with flat tires, causing sparks and eventually catching his car on fire.

That's when NHP says Bird got out, showed a gun and started running.

Bird is in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the shooting.
