LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The standoff between Republicans in congress and President Obama is hurting small business owners in southern Nevada.

Some customers are out of work for now so they'll be spending less at local businesses.

It's lunch time at Eat in downtown Las Vegas.

“We get a lunch rush every day, right about this time, about 11 to 12,” said Eat's lead server Seana Allen.

On most days, there is a line of people waiting to be seated.

However, Allen says today is different.

There are empty tables inside the restaurant

“Today is the first day I've noticed,” Allen said. “It's a weekday. This would be our lunch rush. It’s a little bit mellow.”

It is mellow because some workers at the nearby Federal Courthouse were sent home today as part of the partial government shutdown.

We're not sure how many employees were sent home.

We called the regional spokesperson to find out but she's been furloughed too and she's not taking any phone calls or emails.

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Roberta Lange says this partial shutdown will impact our biggest industry.

“It's going to affect our tourism in Nevada,” Lange said. “It’s going to trickle down to our small businesses and everything we do.”
