HENDERSON -- Two teenage boys were arrested this afternoon in connection with the assault and robbery of a mentally challenged teen late last month.

A 14-year-old Henderson boy and a 15-year-old Las Vegas boy were booked in the Clark County juvenile detention facility on robbery charges. The 14-year-old boy was apprehended at his home and the 15-year-old boy was arrested at Silverado High School.

On September 28 about 8 p.m. a 16-year-old mentally challenged boy was walking through a shopping center at 2271 N. Green Valley Pkwy. when he passed two teens standing outside a store. The teens followed the victim and when he was between two businesses, the suspects grabbed him, punched him in the face several times and threatened him. The suspects took the boy’s shoes, hat and cell phone and ran off.

Witnesses told detectives the suspects ran toward the direction of a nearby apartment complex. Detectives were able to gather information to identify the suspects. One of the suspects admitted to the assault and robbery. Both of the suspects were seen on surveillance video in the shopping center right before the robbery.

The names of the suspects and their mug shots cannot be released as they are charged as juveniles.
