BOULDER CITY (KSNV -- Two people are confirmed dead in a single-engine airplane crash near the Boulder City Airport.

Police Chief Bill Conger said the plane crashed in the desert about a mile short of Runway 9 about 3 p.m. Sunday near U.S. 95 and Silverline Road.

"Two people were on the plane and unfortunately were killed," Conger told News 3. "We are keeping people away and awaiting the arrival of NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) investigators and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has been notified."

Conger said he did not have any information on the aircraft and where it had come from or if it was returning to the airport because of problems.

A Las Vegas resident and private pilot who did not want to be identified told News 3 that he was riding the excursion train in the area and he saw the plane going "low and slow" shortly before the crash.
