Vegas Walmart brings back Twinkies ahead of national release

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- It was Twinkies' comeback day at Walmart The snack hit Walmart shelves three days ahead of its anticipated return nationwide.

News 3 staffers were there when Twinkies and other old hostess products were put on the shelves at the store on Craig Road this afternoon where sales were brisk.

The retailer is selling the "first batch" Twinkies in a collectible box playing off the snack's comeback.

Twinkies and other hostess products have not been produced since November, when Hostess brands filed for bankruptcy and was later bought by private equity groups.
Las Vegan Ray Lopez was excited about the comeback.

“I read it this morning on the internet and I’m a big old fan from Twinkies back in the '70s,” Lopez said.

Walmart rolled out the first batch of new twinkies in 1,600 stores on Friday.

According to a company spokeswoman, by Sunday Twinkies will be available in 3,000 Walmart stores.
