LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Two Las Vegas residents accused of plotting to kidnap Metro police officers entered pleas this morning at the Regional Justice Center.

Devon Newman, 67, pleaded not guilty. David Brutsche, 42, refused to enter a plea so the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Brutsche and Newman have been identified as members of the Sovereign Citizen movement – a group of people who don’t believe in or respect the government’s authority. Newman’s attorney has denied that she has any affiliation with the movement.

Both are scheduled to return to court Dec. 2 for a calendar call. A trial is set for Dec. 9.

Police reports say the duo was plotting to execute officers after they were tried, but conspiracy to commit murder charges were dropped this past month. Police say they have hours of audio recordings of the duo discussing their alleged plot with undercover officers.

The two are now facing one count each of conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
