LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- More than $4,000: That was the winning bid for a gun formerly owned by Christopher Dorner, the subject of a massive police manhunt in February.

Weeks before that shooting spree, Dorner was seen on surveillance footage inside the local pawn shop, Bargain Pawn.

The store put his Astra .38 special revolver, valued at $300, up for auction, hoping its connection to Dorner would increase the bid.

The money will go to the families of Dorner's victims. But if they don't want the money, it will go to a local domestic violence shelter or an agency helping injured officers.

General manager David Bramlett sold the gun to Dorner and says the winning bid of $4,025 is much more than he thought it would be.

“Before this happened, he was just a regular customer, regular guy,” Bramlett said. “When he came in and sold me the gun, I offered him $50.”

Bramlett says the winning bidder is from out of state but this isn't officially over until he or she pays the bid and receives the gun. That could take anywhere from a week to 30 days.
