LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Just weeks after he was appointed a public defender, sources tell News 3 that Ammar Harris has contacted private attorneys to represent him in his murder trial.

Harris told a local judge on April 17 that he didn't have the money for an attorney despite videos posted online showing him rolling in cash.

Sources tell News 3 that Harris has reached out to local attorney Robert Langford and Atlanta attorney Manny Arora, who defended NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones when Jones was in trouble over a shooting at a local strip club.

Reached by phone Wednesday, Langford told News 3 he had no comment.

Police say on Feb. 21, Harris opened fire near Las Vegas Boulevard South and Flamingo at a Maserati driven by Kenny Cherry Jr. That set off a chain reaction crash that killed Cherry, cab driver Michael Bolden and his passenger, Sandi Sutton-Wasmund of Maple Valley, Wash., near Seattle.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson will decide shortly whether to pursue the death penalty against Harris.
