LAS VEGAS (KSNV – The suspect in the death of a 23-year-old Henderson man is dead.

The Clark County coroner’s office says Joseph Lucero, 26, was pronounced dead Wednesday.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issued a release saying that around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, patrol officers responded to the 1900 block of East Tropicana Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the body of Lucero.

Metro named Lucero as the man who shot Zach Girdner five times on March 13 at Manor Suites Apartment Complex off of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Warm Springs. Girdner attempted to drive himself to the hospital. Unfortunately, he crashed into three cars near the 215 and Eastern.

He died later at Sunrise Hospital.

Investigators said after hearing about the shooting victim at the scene of the crash, they went back to the apartment complex and discovered a crime scene at Lucero's apartment. They said it appears the victim went to Lucero's apartment, where the pair argued, which escalated to the shooting.
