LAS VEGAS (KSNV – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released the identity of the officer involved in a shooting Sunday outside the Excalibur Hotel and Casino.

Officer Bernard Plaskett, 54, has been with Metro since September 1992. He is currently assigned to the LVMPD Gang Crimes Bureau.

Plaskett has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this event.

Police say the shooting happened about 9 p.m. Sunday. The suspect was taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Officials say the officer's family had been unloading packages on the side of the casino when the man got into the vehicle.
The officer ordered him to get out of the car through the passenger side.

According to Metro, the detective then identified himself as a Metro police officer and once again ordered the man out.

Moments later, police say the man dropped his hands down to his waist out of view. The detective, according to Metro, pulled out his gun and shot the man in the wrist.

Police say the man then ran out of the car but was grabbed by security guards.
