LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released the names of the officers involved in the shooting of a man suspected in a homicide investigation.

Officer James Milligan, 26, has been employed with Metro since September 2006. Officer Praise Cowman, 28, has been with Metro since January 2007.

Milligan and Cowman shot at Nathan Benson, 27, near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard after the officers said he refused commands to drop two red-handled kitchen knives and instead charged at them.

Benson is the suspect in the death of 44-year-old Shanna Fernandez Sunday night in northwest Las Vegas.

Both officers are assigned to the LVMPD Patrol Division, Northwest Area Command and have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.
