LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A pregnant inmate allegedly shackled during labor is set to receive a six-figure settlement from the state of Nevada.

The state Board of Examiners will decide today in Carson City whether to settle with former inmate Valerie Nabors and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Nabors was an inmate at Florence McClure Women’s Correctional Center in Las Vegas when she gave birth at UMC in October 2011.

Court documents show medical staff opposed the shackles, but officers insisted they stay on for most of the labor and delivery.

Weeks before Nabors’ birth a law went into effect making it illegal to shackle an inmate who's in labor unless she's dangerous or a flight risk.
