NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – One person is dead and another is injured after a single-vehicle accident this morning near Camino Eldorado and West Tropical Parkway.

The accident occurred just after 4:25 a.m., according to the North Las Vegas Police Department.

The passenger, James Albert Monterio, 23, of North Las Vegas, was killed. The driver, a 22-year-old female, was taken to UMC.

According to a news release, the department's preliminary investigation indicates that the woman was driving a 2002 Honda Civic northbound on Camino Eldorado at a high rate of speed.

For unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree severing the vehicle in two.

Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle, suffering life-threatening injuries. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in this crash.

It is the fifth traffic-related fatality in the North Las Vegas jurisdiction this year.
