LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Since early July, the Red Cross has been providing shelter to southern Nevadans from one disaster to another. These past few weeks have been particularly busy, starting with the Carpenter 1 Fire.

Its latest challenge has been to obtain enough manpower to meet the need.

Volunteer shelter manager Mike Edmonds has only had two days off since the Carpenter 1 Fire ignited in early July.

From that 28,000-acre wildfire to house fires to back-to-back heavy thunderstorms, the events have stressed the resources of the organization. Most recently, Friday’s storm displaced hundreds of people at the Atrium Gardens Condos near Washington and Pecos.

While there are enough supplies, personnel are stretched thin.
