LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A woman and her two children were hospitalized Tuesday night after a nearly 24-hour standoff near Mountain Vista and Tropicana.

The woman who refused to to come out of a home was shot and taken to the hospital, her two children were taken to a nearby hospital as well for observation, Metro Police say. No other details were immediately available.

According to Metro, two adults and three children were in the home in the 4500 block of Newton Drive when a call came in around 11:30 p.m. Monday about a domestic situation. Police say a woman grabbed a handgun in the residence, and her husband ran out of the home with their 10-year-old son.

The woman stayed inside with her 2- and 3-year-old boys.

Police were not going to make a move and wait for her to come out. Because she has a handgun and two children, they are being extra careful.

Neighbors near the home are not being allowed to return at this time. Mountain Vista remains closed between Tropicana and Harmon.

In another situation, Metro says a suspect surrendered safely at 8 a.m. in a standoff situation Flamingo and Boulder Highway at "The Suites."
