HENDERSON, Nev. -- A total of 28 groups have applied to open medical marijuana dispensaries or grow operations in Henderson.
Henderson is doing things differently than Las Vegas and Clark County. The city is leaving the decisions about who is most qualified to operate a marijuana business in Henderson up to the state of Nevada.
There are plenty of attorneys and doctors on the list, but other applicants come from all walks of life and industries.
Of the 28 applicants in Henderson, most have ties to Clark County.
One applicant is Kathy Gillespie who has five successful start-up businesses under her belt, including an agriculture business and one of the largest printing companies in Las Vegas. Gillespie already received approval to open up a medical marijuana business in unincorporated Clark County and now she's hoping to include Henderson.
Nevada will rank the best qualified, taking the stress off Henderson and business owners like Gillespie.
"We're pretty confident that we have many, many of the bases covered, but I'll never tell you that we have 100 percent of the bases covered," Gillespie said.
