LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- State lawmakers and the public have been abruptly shut out and unable to obtain information about medical marijuana cards.
Despite that, News 3 has learned from Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health that the state has issued more than 500 new medical marijuana cards in just one month.
"I think that's critical information and that doesn't hurt anybody because we're not telling anybody that somebody specifically has a license," said Sen. Tick Segerblom (D). "We're giving raw numbers. They've done it for how many years making disclosure, why they changed their mind all of a sudden, I'm not sure."
Segerbloom says making certain information confidential presents challenges for lawmakers who are looking to track the budding industry.
He says he will be looking to make changes to the law to require more disclosure.
