NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The latest local municipality to open up to medical marijuana businesses is giving the public a sneak peek at what to expect.

In North Las Vegas, the city council is discussing issues such as who can grow the drug, as well as where and how it will be regulated. There is a draft proposal before the council, but first they want to get some feedback from the council.

No action was taken Wednesday night; the meeting was more of an informative discussion.

The council heard a presentation from Gregory Blackburn, who is the city's community development and compliance director.

He laid out some details on zoning and where green zones, or cultivation facilities, are proposed.

The push is to encourage people to build cultivation facilities at apex industrial park and provide incentives like lower fees for licenses and a quicker process for special use permits from the city.

An ordinance will be introduced in two weeks; then, there will be a vote on the city’s medical marijuana rules in July.
