ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KSNV MyNews3) Wildfires continue to burn in Southern California despite progress made by firefighters. Fueled by dry air, wind, and years of drought, the fires have raced across San Diego County, scorching more than 10-thousand acres.

At least one person has been killed and 20-homes have been destroyed. Firefighters found a badly-burned body in a homeless camp not far from the city of Carlsbad.

More than 15-thousand residents have evacuated, fleeing a blaze that the fire chief calls a "Moving target." Horrified neighbors say these conditions are the worst they've ever seen.

"It was really terrifying,” one resident said. “I was just thinking about my dogs at home, how am I gonna get home. I was worried about my neighbors, you know, just all the families down here. It was just really bad."

"Some friends called and said they seen your house burning on TV, so we came here as soon as we can, but it was gone it was too late by then," said Payne.

A 17-year-old and 19-year-old were arrested for trying to start a fire in San Diego's Escondido area. Police officials could not say if the pair was involved in setting any other fires in San Diego County.

There's a bit of good news for firefighters. The forecast calls for cooler temperatures and lighter winds.
