LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Customers who recently expressed displeasure with a proposed 0.9 percent increasing in their NV Energy bill are likely to be less than happy with the latest development.

NV Energy filed paperwork Friday with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission that boosts that rate request to 1.64 percent.

The filing indicated the amended request was based on more recent customer counts, sales information, and plant and labor costs.

NV Energy pointed out that the increased request, if approved, would still result in the lowest rate increase in more than a decade.

The new proposal says the average NV Energy consumer who uses 1,141 kilowatt hours a month would see a bill of just over $152, an increase of just under $4 a month.

The PUC is scheduled to resume hearings on the rate increase request at 10 a.m. Aug. 26.

If approved, the new rates would go into effect Jan. 1, 2015.
