LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Department of Air Quality has issued an advisory for smoke and ground-level ozone due to wildfires burning in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.

The advisory remains in effect through Saturday and possibly continuing into next week. The location of the wildfires may be viewed here.

With the sale of fireworks starting today and Fourth of July celebrations soon to get underway, officials also expect potentially elevated smoke levels in some neighborhoods caused by local fireworks. A portion of the smoke from these sources is made up of small particles and other pollutants that can be inhaled and aggravate respiratory diseases.

Pollution levels often increase on Independence Day and on days around the holiday. In some previous years, under stagnant weather conditions, smoke levels monitored in some areas have exceeded the levels considered healthy.

Typically, pollution returns to normal levels no later than the afternoon of July 5. Air Quality officials will monitor conditions, and will post an alert on the forecast page of the DAQ website if unhealthy levels occur.

At this time, unhealthy levels of air pollution are not occurring. Air Quality officials will continue to monitor conditions and will post an alert on the forecast page of the DAQ website if unhealthy levels actually occur. A link to the forecast page is located here.
