LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- We are still in summer, but according to a local allergist, we are now into the first couple weeks of the fall allergy season -- meaning pollen is triggering sniffling and sneezing. But just how bad could it get?

Recent rain is bringing a little relief from allergies, but as the valley dries out and warms up again, pollen is making a comeback.

Allergist Dr. Jim Christensen is starting to see an increase in allergy sufferers. Dr. Christensen says the fall allergy season started mid-August, and lasts through the end of November.

"It’s pretty much historically cued off of ragweed," Dr. Christensen said. "[How bad it gets] really sort of depends on the rain. It’s one of those things, if you water the crops, they’ll grow."

Dr. Christensen says the best way to fight fall allergies is to keep doors and windows closed and change air filters.

Even so, allergy season has a huge effect on some in the valley. Personal trainer Nathan Vasquez has suffered from Allergies ever since he moved to Las Vegas.

"I moved out here and they were just terrible," Vasquez said. "I never had them before. [It] actually ended up putting me in the hospital."

Vasquez spends a lot of time outside, and he keeps allergy medicine nearby to help deal with the rising pollen count.

"You gotta live with it. It’s an everyday thing," Vasquez said. "I don’t let it bother me. If I did, I wouldn’t have a job."

Dr. Christensen recommends working out at night instead of the morning because pollen is typically triggered between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. when the humidity drops.
