LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Animal Foundation has reached dog capacity at its adoption centers and will be forced to make euthanasia decisions to create space for new animals entering its care if adopters are not quickly found.

Beginning Saturday, August 2 through Sunday, August 10, adoption fees for Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas, the two breeds at greatest risk for humane euthanasia, will be reduced to just $40 during The Animal Foundation’s Be A Hero Week.

The Animal Foundation currently has more than 130 Pit Bulls and more than 50 Chihuahuas available for adoption. The nonprofit’s goal is to find loving, forever homes for 100 Pit Bulls and ALL of the Chihuahuas.

Finding homes for these hardertoplace breeds will free up adequate room for the staggering numbers of pets the organization anticipates entering its care over the next several weeks.

“We’re doing everything we can to save as many lives as possible, but we need help immediately,” said Andy Bischel, director of development for The Animal Foundation. “Our goal is always to find the best possible homes for as many of our incredible shelter pets as possible, but we are out of space. The overwhelming majority of our adoptable dogs are Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas. We need the community’s help in finding good homes for these dogs as quickly as possible so that we don’t have face the reality of euthanizing healthy, adoptable dogs due of a lack of space."

Discounted adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, uptodate vaccines, and more. An additional $10 city license fee may apply.

The Be A Hero Week special overlaps the currently running FreeFURAll feewaived cat special, which has already helped to find homes for the majority of the cats in The Animal Foundation’s care. Fees will continue to be waived for cats through Sunday as shelter staff anticipates more cats and kittens being made available over the next two days.

Discounted adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, up-to-date vaccines and more. An additional city license fee may apply. The discounted adoptions are offered at The Animal Foundation’s two adoption locations:

● Campus Adoption Center: 655 N. Mojave Road, Las Vegas (open 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily)

● PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center: 286 W. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson (open 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. Sunday)
