Bicyclist struck by vehicle dies from injuries

LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3 and Las Vegas Sun) -- A 57-year-old male bicyclist died Wednesday after he was struck by a 2007 Nissan Versa near Valley View Boulevard and Capella Avenue.

Metro investigators responded to the crash about 5:30 p.m. and concluded the accident happened approximately 146 feet north of Capella Avenue.

The bicyclist was traveling southbound on a Huffy Terra Nova Mountain Bike on the west sidewalk of Valley View Boulevard, north of Capella Avenue.

A 2007 Nissan Versa driven by Mebrihit Abraha was traveling southbound on Valley View Boulevard in the right travel lane, north of Capella Avenue, when the bicyclist suddenly entered into the right travel lane and was struck by the Nissan.

The bicyclist was ejected, and transported to University Medical Center Trauma where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

This is the 62nd traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2013. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
