Boy on bicycle in critical condition after being hit by truck

LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- An 8-year-old boy riding a bicycle was hit by a pickup truck Monday night and hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit.

The accident happened at 6:38 p.m. Monday at Minden Way and Woodfield Drive.

According to investigators and witness statements, the boy was riding a BMX bicycle and traveling southbound across Woodfield Drive from a posted stop sign at Minden Way.

A 2012 Dodge Ram truck driven by Robert Woods, 51, was westbound on Woodfield Drive crossing Minden Way.

The pedal cyclist crossed in front of the path of the 2012 Dodge resulting in an impact.

The front of the 2012 Dodge struck the left side of the bicycle and the rider was forced to the ground.

The boy was transported to University Medical Center Trauma by ambulance and remains in critical condition.

This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
