LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A California man died at UMC on Saturday morning after apparently collapsing in the parking lot during the first night of the Electric Daisy Carnival.
The Clark County coroner's office has confirmed that 24-year-old San Leandro, Calif., resident Montgomery Tsang died at 6:12 at UMC after being transported from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The medical examiner could not confirm that Tsang actually attended the EDC.
The coroner has not determined a cause or manner of death, and details of what happened are being investigated.
Metro declined to comment on the death, saying any comment has to come from Insomniac, the company producing the festival.
Insomniac issued this statement this afternoon:
"Today we learned some very tragic news, that after attending the festival a guest of the show has passed away. We are deeply saddened by this news, and hope that everyone will join us in keeping his family and friends in their thoughts during this very difficult time. Dance music fans pride themselves in being part of a loving community and, as we get ready to start the second night of the show, we ask everyone to help us keep this event safe. Look after your group of friends, utilize the buddy system, and if you see something, say something. No one should ever hesitate to ask any of our medical staff, public safety personnel or Insomniac staff for help, or call 911 in case of an emergency. One death is one too many, and we all must do our part to keep each other safe, healthy and happy, tonight and every night."
-- Jennifer Forkish, spokesperson for Insomniac.
Metro did report there were 29 felony arrests from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday at EDC. All were related to narcotics. There were also two DUI arrests for alcohol and six traffic accidents. Five people were transported to area hospitals from the 249 calls made by medical personnel staffing the event.
This is the fourth year for the EDC in Las Vegas.
The event was previously held at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
In 2010 a woman died from drug intoxication at the EDC. Insomniac moved the event to Las Vegas the next year.
