LAS VEGAS (KSNV – The Clark County Specialty Court System focuses on the rehabilitation of non-violent convicts, battling mental health or substance abuse issues.

It is a local success story and a growing one – with a new program for probation violators. It’s one more branch to a system that ultimately benefits the taxpayer.

The Specialty Court System began more than 20 years ago as an alternative to prison, specifically geared toward each individual

Every eight weeks, graduates attend a ceremony marking the end of a rigorous program that can last years, usually requiring individuals to get their diploma, go to college, and even a stable job

Behind this is Judge Linda Bell, along with a small web of caring individuals invested in a future that could have been spent behind bars.

Specialty courts solve issues through a rigorous and coordinated approach between judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation, law enforcement, mental health, social service and treatment communities. All work together to help participants recover, live crime-free and become productive citizens.
