LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Commissioner Tom Collins, who represents the Bunkerville area, has been extremely outspoken during the Cliven Bundy standoff.

He took a moment on Tuesday to apologize for some of his comments.

Collins appeared choked up as he addressed his colleagues on the county commission.

Over the last week, he's taken aim at outside militia members coming into Nevada, calling it "stupid" to try to start a war with the BLM. He's also been accused of the using the term "inbreds" to refer to people from Utah who came here to get involved in the fight.

Collins says while he's known Cliven Bundy for years, he believes the rancher is wrong for not paying his grazing fees.

He admits he could've chosen his words more carefully, and told his fellow commission members he's sorry for any disrespect he directed toward them.

Collins says he's heard from a number of residents in the Bunkerville area who were frightened by armed militia members coming into their community.

Collins says it was always his goal to end the conflict over the Bundy cattle peacefully.
