HENDERSON -- A 39-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday evening while attempting to cross East Lake Mead Parkway against the light, say Henderson police.

Yvonne Harris of Henderson was hit about 9:15 p.m. Saturday by a westbound Ford Expedition driven by Martel Cage, 27, as she was attempting to cross Lake Mead Parkway at Taylor Street. The woman was crossing at an intersection that had crosswalk markings; however, witnesses told investigators that the woman was crossing against the crosswalk signals.

Harris was taken to Sunrise Hospital Trauma where she died from her injuries about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The driver was not injured.

Cage voluntarily submitted to blood testing to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. A preliminary investigation also indicates that speed does not appear to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation.

The Clark County coroner’s office released the victim's name Sunday.

In 2013, 267 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes on Nevada roadways. So far this year, 78 people have died in traffic-related fatalities statewide with 45 occurring in Clark County. There have been three traffic-related fatalities in Henderson this year.

Of the fatalities this year there have been 20 traffic-related pedestrian deaths in the state with 13 of those pedestrian deaths occurring in Clark County.
