LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Three Las Vegas Valley UPS stores were a part of the company’s 51 stores that sustained a security breach via malware that may have led to the theft of customer credit- and debit-card data in the United States.

The company discovered the trouble after late-July news reports that the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service discovered that hackers had targeted vulnerable corporate networks and placed undetectable malware on them.

That prompted a UPS investigation of its 4,470 franchises, or about 1 percent of its stores.

“It was a process. We engaged an outside IT security firm to identify the issue and remove the problem,” said Chelsea Lee, a UPS spokeswoman.

The three Las Vegas Valley UPS stores affected by the malware virus are:

7435 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, between July 1 and Aug. 11.

2657 Windmill Pkwy., Henderson, between July 1 and Aug. 11.

5575 Simmons St., North Las Vegas, between April 29 and Aug. 11.

A fourth store in Reno was the other Nevada location hit by the virus, Lee said. The company’s investigation determined that the malware affected 105,000 transactions at the 51 stores.

UPS is offering identity protection and credit monitoring for one year for any customers who have been affected, Lee said.
“Our concern right now is our customers to make sure they are aware,” she said.

Anyone who believes their credit or debit cards were hit by the virus should contact the individual stores.
