Democratic candidates, supporters rally at Tropicana

LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- With the primary election about a month away, Democratic candidates running in local, state and national offices gathered in one room with hundreds of supporters Saturday at the Tropicana.

The Clark County Democratic Convention occurs every two years. This year's theme was "Change starts with you."

It was an opportunity for local Democrats to meet those seeking office from local races to the Clark County Commission to Congress. Also attending were candidates in non-partisan offices such as district court judge, sheriff, and others.

"It is important it to come here to engage with other Democrats, to get re-energized so we can go out and do out the work in order to make sure were electing Democrats," said Ida Gaines, a 40-year Las Vegas resident.

Chris Miller, chairman of the Clark County Democratic Party said, "It's a way for them to connect with voters, constituents,to listen to their message and give them an opportunity to volunteer to help them get elected."

Business matters at the convention included finalizing the party platform as well as other tasks.

The primary is June 10 and early voting begins in three weeks.

The last day to register to vote in person or online is May 20.

Flight in stolen plane leads to man's arrest

A Piper 44 Seminole aircraft similar to the plane that was taken by a former student pilot early Saturday, May 2, 2015, from the North Las Vegas Airport and flown around the Las Vegas Valley before landing about 2:30 a.m. A man was arrested and faces unknown charges.
