LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A flash flood watch has been issued for the region from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain will expand Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening in Southern Nevada, Northwest Arizona and California, the National Weather Service said.

There will be an increasing threat of flash flooding across much of the region.

The affected areas include the Las Vegas Valley, Lincoln County, southern Nye County and northeast and western Clark County in Nevada as well as Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

The NWS said a substantial increase in moisture will accompany a low pressure system moving up from Baja California and northwest Mexico Saturday afternoon through Sunday.

The front will fuel increasing coverage of thunderstorms with heavy rain across Southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California.
