HENDERSON, Nev. -- A Henderson family is trying to deal with the loss of their son, involved in a police shootout Wednesday morning.

The victim's father, Sonny Thomas, expressed the pain he feels for both his son and the officer.

Ryan Allen Marone, 37, was killed when an officer returned fire near Horizon Ridge and Gibson early Wednesday morning.

The police on Thursday released the name of the officers involved in the shootout.

Officer Timothy Donnelly, who has been employed with Henderson Police since 1994, was injured in the exchange.

Officer Donnelly was struck by a bullet during the incident. He has been treated and released from a local hospital.

The other officers involved in the incident are Officers Carlos Chorens, Troy McDermed and David Woolman.

Chorens has been with the Henderson Police since 2007; McDermed has been with Henderson Police since 2006; and Woolman has been with the department since 2002.

Henderson police received calls about shots fired inside the Thomas home. SWAT team members rushed to the 400-block of Flat Plains Avenue. Investigators said Marone walked outside the house and fired a shot toward a Henderson police officer.

Shrapnel hit Officer Donnelly in the stomach area.

SWAT team members immediately fired at Marone. He died on his parent's driveway. Thomas has no idea why his son would shoot at a police officer.

"Please find a reason why this happen. How can a guy go to this to that," Thomas said.

Thomas said his son had no criminal record and recently separated from his wife.

Thomas says it'll always be tough dealing with his son's loss, but he understands the dangers when a shot is fired at an officer.
