HENDERSON -- A 66-year-old Henderson man died Saturday after having a medical episode while driving and then crashing his car.

Henderson police reported that the man was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Galleria Drive at Marks Street about 12:30 p.m. when the car went off the roadway. The man was found slumped over the wheel unconscious and may have suffered a heart attack. He was taken to St. Rose Hospitals–Rose de Lima Campus where he died.

The preliminary investigation indicated that he likely had a medical episode before the crash. The car drove off the roadway onto the sidewalk striking a jersey wall and riding along the wall. The car continued more than 200 feet through the intersection sideswiping a light pole. No one else was in the car and no other vehicles were involved.

Speed, drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The roadway was closed for nearly three hours while accident investigators conducted their investigation.

A Clark County medical examiner determined that the man had a medicals episode before the accident. The death will not be considered a traffic fatality.
