HENDERSON, Nev. -- Henderson Police officers conducted checks of underage alcohol compliance at stores over the weekend to help ensure that minors are not able to buy alcoholic beverages.

Officers from the Community Relations Unit, with the assistance of underage volunteers, checked 64 convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores throughout the city of Henderson Saturday.

Of the 64 establishments, 61 did not sell alcohol to the underage person. However, three businesses did sell alcohol to the minor.

The businesses that failed were:
  • 7-Eleven, 1400 W. Horizon Ridge Pkwy.
  • Smith’s, 55 S. Valle Verde Dr.
  • Walgreens, 101 E. Lake Mead Pkwy.
The clerks were subject to a citation for serving an underage person and face a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

The owners or managers of a business that fails a second or third time can also be issued a citation and could face the revocation of their business license. Businesses that fail an alcohol compliance check generally are rechecked at some time in the future.

In addition, four businesses that had previously failed an underage alcohol compliance check were re-checked Saturday and passed. The three businesses that did fail on Saturday, failed a compliance check for the first time.

The Henderson Police Department will continue its effort to reduce juvenile alcohol-related crimes and alcohol abuse by minors with this ongoing program of monitoring the liquor-selling establishments within the community.
