LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- More than 115 pets had been brought into the Lied Animal Shelter on Saturday at of 4:45 p.m., a typical number for the day after a Fourth of July holiday.

Rachel Wright, communications coordinator for The Animal Foundation said the intake of pets is expected to be higher today and Sunday and perhaps for a few days. Part of the increase is because of the holiday.

"We take in about 110 a day and took in 40,000 all of last year," Wright told News 3. "We expect it to be higher than normal for the few days after the holiday because people find animals in the street and Animal Control is called more often on days after the holidays."

The reception department is open at the facility at 655 N. Mojave Rd. in northeast Las Vegas from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day while the adoption department is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The phone number is (702) 384-3333.
