Allen Park, MI ( - The Detroit Lions released running back Mikel Leshoure on Saturday as part of their final roster cuts.

Leshoure, 24, was a second-round pick in 2011 by Detroit, but missed his rookie season after tearing his Achilles during a practice session.

He started 14 games in 2012 after missing the first two games with a suspension and finished the season with 798 yards and nine touchdowns on 215 carries.

However, the team acquired Reggie Bush in free agency in 2013, and he was relegated to a backup role, appearing in just three games with limited touches last season.

The Lions also released wide receiver Kris Durham, a three-year veteran who filled in admirably when Nate Burleson went down with a season-ending injury in 2013. Matt Stafford's college roommate finished the season with 38 catches for 490 yards and two touchdowns over 16 games.

Also included in the final cuts were guard Rodney Austin, linebackers Shamari Benton, Brandon Hepburn and Julian Stanford, wide receivers Patrick Edwards and Andrew Peacock, tight ends Michael Egnew and Jordan Thompson, running backs Emil Igwengu and George Winn, cornerbacks Chris Greenwood and Mohammed Seisay, center Darren Keyton, defensive tackles Xavier Proctor and Jimmy Saddler-McQueen and tackle Michael Williams

In addition, the team terminated the contracts of defensive tackle Andre Fluellen, safety Nate Ness, guard Garrett Reynolds and defensive end Darryl Tapp.
